John Lombard impersonating Wayne Newton Photo

John's Tribute to "Mr. Las Vegas", started back in the Early 1980's, attending Newton's shows, people asked John if he was related to The Vegas Superstar. On occasion, John would emulate Wayne's voice during his shows. For Newton's 50th Birthday in 1992, John gave him a Rare Cassette Recording of Elvis Presley's Last Las Vegas Show at the Hilton, in which Newton was in the audience (Elvis introduced Wayne during the show). As John had read in Newton's Biography that Elvis' Last Vegas show was described in the book as his "Swan Song". Knowing that Elvis always gave 100%, John decided to give Wayne a copy at the show, so he could re-evaluate what he had written. Wayne thanked John during a Nashville Television show for the tape, and the two met on June 24, 1992 at his show in Madison, Wisconsin. Ironically, it was the 15th Anniversary of Elvis' Appearance at the same venue during his Final Tour of 1977.

John usually includes his version of Wayne's "Mack the Knife", which was recorded by Bobby Darin, who, in turn, gave Newton his first hit single "Danke Shoen".
